Hi,

I have checked the model category table and i want to create assets for the following Ci s. The model categories are available in the system but asset class is missing. Please let me know what could be the asset classes for the CI s and a method of how to identify asset classes to configure in model categories.

cmdb_ci_db_mssql_instanceMicrosoft SQL Instance
cmdb_ci_db_ora_instanceOracle Instance
cmdb_ci_spkgSoftware
cmdb_ci_applApplication
cmdb_ci_db_mysql_instanceMySQL Instance
cmdb_ci_network_adapterNetwork Adapter
cmdb_ci_diskDisk
cmdb_ci_commCommunication Device

Hi Sreedhar,

Chandran (ncp) is correct. Why do you want to map these? When it comes to asset management, the installations are not the asset. The Software License you purchase is the asset.

As he stated, what is your goal here? What are you looking to achieve. While I could certainly tell you how to do it, my recommendations on these is to not do it. I have yet to hear a good reason to make Assets for database instances.

On some of those other items, are you looking to track them as individual items? Are you putting Asset tags on them? is there a reason to track them individually? Do you need to track Network Adapters individually from an Asset perspective?

There are other things to consider, too. For example, cmdb_ci_disk represents disks in a computer. You may track these individually to ensure proper disposal from a data security perspective, but have you determined how you are going to filter out virtual disks?

Hi,

I configured Asset class as hardware for all the CI s that inherit hardware CI table.

Please let me know if this is correct and also about the model categories for CIs that do not inherit hardware CI class.

Can you please help me understand how to identify asset classes for instances(oracle, microsoft SQL and my SQL).

Navigate to cmdb_ci table and alm_asset table then you can check all these assets along with their class name.

Hi,

My question is about creating model categories for asset management. I wanted to know what could be the asset classes for the CI classes(oracle, microsoft SQL and my SQL) in model category records if these CI classes can be considered as hardware assets.

Can you please explain if these CI s can be classified under hardware asset or software asset management.

If these are to be considered as software assets, how can i identify installed on and other parameters specific to software assets.
