For Change Requests, the purpose of the Category field is to classify what the change is being submitted against. It often works as a dependent dropdown (for example, Hardware, Software, or Network) and drives the available subcategories based on the selected category.

Category field on the Change form is generally intended as an optional, high-level classification of a change. Its primary purposes are:
- Grouping similar changes
- Reporting and analytics
- Filtering and searching change records
- Supporting organization-specific categorization
By default, the Category field is fully customizable. Organizations can define their own category values (for example: Network, Database, Application, Security, Infrastructure, etc.) based on their operational needs.
