List Context Menu:

  • Where to Find: The list context menu is accessed by right-clicking on the header (gray bar) of a list in ServiceNow.
  • Purpose: It provides options related to the entire list, such as:
    • Personalize list layout.
    • Export list to Excel or CSV.
    • Create filters or group by a field.
    • Save list as a report.
  • Visual Cue: When you right-click the list header, a menu pops up that allows actions affecting the list as a whole.

Column Context Menu:

  • Where to Find: The column context menu is accessed by right-clicking on a specific column header (e.g., "Number," "Short Description").
  • Purpose: It provides options specific to the column, such as:
    • Sorting the list by that column (ascending/descending).
    • Configuring the column (e.g., personalizing columns visible to you).
    • Creating quick filters based on the column's data.
  • Visual Cue: When you right-click on a column header, a dropdown menu appears showing actions tied to the column you clicked.

Key Visual Differences:

  1. Position:

    • List Context Menu: Found on the list header (gray bar above the columns).
    • Column Context Menu: Found on individual column headers.
  2. Scope:

    • List Context Menu: Applies actions to the whole list.
    • Column Context Menu: Focuses on the column you interact with.
  3. Menu Options:

    • List Context Menu: Broad options for the entire list.
    • Column Context Menu: Field-specific or column-specific options.
