There are multiple ways through which you can do the integration:

1. REST 

2. SOAP

3. Data Source

4. Scripted Rest API

5. Connecter (Plugins)
You can separately learn more on these ways,

Prerequisites changes according to the way you have chosen to integrate.

Its not that easy.  More so than any other building block in ServiceNow, you need to understand requirements.  
Is it push or pull?
What protocol are you using?
How are you authenticating?
Is there data transformation involved?
Is it bi-directional?
Are there pre-existing flow designer spokes?

Its not like there's an "integration" module in ServiceNow that you fill out like a form.
