Passing variable from form widget to a field in modal.

Hi guys, 

I have a development issue in our servicenow instance. 

I have a widget called hms_form which is based on SN's form widget. It has a field called 'number':

I have customised the widget so that it contains a button called 'Opprett Tiltak' (Create Measures in English), this button when clicked opens another customised instance of the form widget as a modal page (called opprett_tiltak_modal):

I would like the field HMS Referanse (technical name of hms_referanse) to be autopopulated by the value of the number field in hms_form . Any tips and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
