Query on META field usage in Knowledge Articles

Hello All,

I would like to know the significance of "Meta" field in Knowledge article.I have one keyword "Testing" in the Meta field.I have created one knowledge base "Test Knowledge Base" and created one article associated with it with SHORT DESCRIPTION field as "Test Article Testing" and TEXT field as "Testing purpose".

As per my understanding, what ever keyword we have given in the Meta field i.e "Testing",if we search in the Knowledge homepage, the article should not visible. But the article is showing in the search results. For admins and ITIL also I have tested.
Can anyone suggest on this please if my understanding is incorrect or I need to use TEXT INDEXES functionality to achieve this! Thanks in advance.

The Meta field allows you to define additional search terms for your Knowledge Article.  Additional terms that do not appear in the Short description or Text fields.

For example, if I enter the word "monkey" into the Meta field on an Article, that Article will now appear when I search for the word "monkey".

You seem to be under the impression that Meta excludes search terms. That is not the case. It adds search terms. I am not aware of any method that excludes search terms.

Thanks for the response Geoffrey. The information was helpful. But I am looking to restrict some words for knowledge article search. Can anyone help me with  this Thanks.

Hi Satya,

The META field is used as one of the identifiers while searching for an article in ServiceNow. These are pre defined but can be modified. According to what I checked last time, the Number field has the highest precedence followed by Short Description, Text, Language , Etc..
