REST API reponse missing expected fields

Has anyone experienced a response to an apparently successful PUT/POST on the Table REST API missing some expected fields like "number" or "sys_id"?
I'm seeing this currently, not sure why. Any hints or pointer will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Greg,
I assume you have checked ACLs? I.e. does it work with admin access?
Have you run your request through the REST API Explorer and gotten the same results?
