Service Catalog: Citizen Developer training

Can anyone recommend training material / online courses on building service catalog forms that does not require App Engine Studio or Catalog Builder?

We do not have a licence for App Engine Studio. I have experimented with Catalog Builder and completed the ServiceNow University course but do not believe that is suitable for citizen developers in our environment.

Isn't Catalog Builder built for exactly for the Citizen coder? Anything is coding in the back end and that's the domain of a developer.

Hi @Colleen

Since your organization does not have an App Engine Studio license and Catalog Builder isn't suited for your citizen developers,

the best alternative is learning the traditional Native ServiceNow UI (Maintain Items) or catalog builder combined with Flow Designer.

Hi @Colleen

can you give some more context? You’re stating citizen builders but also that catalog item is not suited…. What is the requirement and how broad an access are you thinking of providing?

If my answer has helped with your question, please mark my answer as the accepted solution and give a thumbs up.

Hi AndersBGS

I had another look at Catalog Builder and I believe the main limitation is the flow. Spike pointed me towards the step based request fulfillment OOTB flow which could work for some of our catalogue requests but we often have scenarios where, for instance, the approval group is based on the requester department and requires coding to select the correct group. The solution might be for us to create  additional approval tasks for the "step based request fulfillment" or additional flow templates. However, we have to consider whether the additional work is worth it.
