Table inherited from task - inherited fields

Hi

I have created a table inherited from task. unfortunately when I look at the default form for this table, I cannot see the comments and work notes column unless logged in as admin.

I have added role with ACL entries to specifically give access to the column and that works. My question is what are the default settings for columns from inherited tables? I tried an ACL for the entire table and that never worked.

For example

I inherit from task to create table "training task". I add an ACL for the whole training task table to give read access. Why does that not give access to the inherited "task.comments and work notes" column?

thanks in advance

Hi Ian

Did you create a write ACL for the comments and worknotes fields? These fields are journal entry fields and so you can't see them unless you can write to them. The read acl will let you see the entries made by somebody else in the activity stream but to see the input box you need write access.

I have no idea why but this was the explanation I got when I had the same question 😛

Hi Scott

Thanks for this. Yes I did. And it now works. What I don't understand however is what is different about that column that makes in need  column level read and write ACLs on top of the table level read\write ACLs that were in already place.

Hi

I think I have sussed this. It is because there were column level ACLs on the parent table. So note to self, when extending tables check out fully the ACLs on place on the parent!
