UI Builder Global Search help?

I'm pretty new to ServiceNow and I'm working on a pre-existing Portal Experience in UI Builder. I'm trying to enable global search, but as far as I can tell the search bar that appears doesn't ever find anything. I'm not sure if this is expected behavior or not. The "Learn More" link in Experience Settings just leads to https://developer.servicenow.com/, which isn't helpful. If there's a guide to using this search functionality I'd appreciate it, because I'm at a loss.
