Unable to change the column name, label, type of an input/output variable when adding a variable to a copy of a Custom Scripted TestConfig

After creating a copy of a Custom Scripted TestConfig, I clicked the "New" button under the table of input variables. When I did, the variable opened in the Advanced View. This view did not show the column name, the label, the type, the reference, or any other field of the new input variable. What it does show is five tabs, each of which has the title "label". Clicking on the tabs does not change what is displayed. Underneath the tabs is the text "Related Links", and below that are three links, labeled "Add to Update Set", "Run Point Scan", and "Default view". If I click on "Default view" then the view changes to the default one, and the five tabs are no longer visible. However, the only field that is displayed is the "Default value" field. The rest of the default view is the same as the advanced view, except that the link " Default value" has changed to "Advanced value".

As a result, I am unable to change the values of fields of the input variable, except for the default value. If I create a variable and then edit it, I am still unable to see the column name, label, type, and other fields. I’m wondering if it could it be a problem with my permissions, and that's why I can't see the fields?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Brian,

I've seen this before--and found the solution by luck.

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Open the Step Configurations module through the left navigator.
  2. Find your custom step configuration in the list, and open it.
  3. Add your new input or output variables through the related lists.
The records will open in the advanced view.

When you go through the Step Configuration module, the step configuration opens in the advanced view and so the input variables also open in the advanced view.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Cody

Hi Cody,

I apprecate your responce, however when I try to add a new input variable, it does not give me the option to edit the name, label, or type of the new input variable.

Hi Brian,

I see what you mean now. Have you tried to add fields to the form layout in the view?

Thanks,

Cody

Hi Cody,

While I can add new fields to the input variable using the Form Layout, what I'm trying to do is to get the existing fields to appear.

However, your comment gave me an idea. When I open the input variable in Form Design, it shows the hidden fields on the left hand side. If I drag the fields I want to  I think this will solve my problem, I just have see if the rest of my team is okay with this solution.

Thanks for your help with this.
