Using asterisk - * on the short description field - Incident form

Hi,

One of our user is trying to use * - on the "Short description" - available on the Incident form.

And he has come with an issue stating :

"

Using * (asterisks) in the Short Description will cause SN to hang and freeze the browser or cause browser crashing. Tested with IE and Chrome.
Speaking with XYZ, the * (asterisks) are used as a wild card for searching data tables in which the Short Description is linked to the Knowledge Base or archive.
This might be working as designed, but SN users should be aware to NEVER use * (asterisks) in the Short Description.

Steps to Reproduce: Yes -- use * asterisks anywhere in the Short Description and click SAVE.

"

I need to justify that this an expected behavior, but before that looking for any relevant document or something to go back to them.

Also, I first need to understand or confirm if this is an expected behavior only?

Need help/suggestions.

Thanks,

D

Dilip, I would suggest you open an incident in Hi for clarification from ServiceNow development.  Only they will be able to confirm whether this is a bug or working as designed.

Hello Dilip,

I tried same on PDI but I didn't faced any issue, but if its happening on your instance I would suggest to raise HI ticket and hopefully they will provide you clarification why you are facing this issue.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Even I tried by entering * and save.

Please try the other way round - *followed by some keyword and immediately go and save the INC form.

You might notice some delay

Thanks.

Hi Dilip,

I tried with * followed with some character and then again * but no effect on my instance. I highly recommend raise HI ticket and they will surely help you out for this.
