Vendor Management - Far beyond Risks or Assets

Hello everyone,

We are putting in place a almost full blown ServiceNow instance at work and one thing we can't get our hands on is how do you manage your "Vendors" with ServiceNow. We have a process guide for ITAM(SAM, HAM, SAM Pro), each ITSM practices have their process guide(incidents, problems, chances, catalogues ans so on...) Vendors... Nada...

I have been part of the Vendor team for 2 years now reading on the Practice on Gartner, on ITIL, COBIT, OSI, but when it comes to Best Practices with a tool there is nothing. No guide line, no structure just a blank slate "do has it pleases you". We have worked with Financial authorities and such and even them have no real guide line.

The thing that bothers me the most is the lack of contact management within ServiceNow, Escalation processes and such. I know there is a module or an app called On-Call but even that app doesn't have an in depth list of internal and external contacts.

We had to devellop new tabs and fields to suit our needs at the end we would need VRM to fill in most of the blanks but what if we don't need VRM, what if we want to manage our suppliers, vendors, third parties on our own including the escalation processes and follow up with our vendor management team within ServiceNow away from Excel and Sharepoint lists?

If anyone has some insight on the matter or would like to share their take on Vendor Management and I all ears!

Thank you!

Hi @pascayer ,

The best way to manage your vendors is using VRM itself!!

This is the complete guide on what are thr best possiblibilities of using VRM and how does it suits your requirement:

Thank you for your reply but I am working really close with our Compliance and security dept and even though they see ServiceNow as a huge upgrade in our organisation from our actual system they do see ServiceNow as a huge liability if we put everything in it. Managing the Vendors with VM only is very limited and not all organisations will need a program like ServiceNow to manage GRC all together.
