What kind of CI's are these? If your asset is a laptop, it could very well be that multiple applications are associated with that laptop, because they are installed. Since both the laptop as the applications can be CI's, this is the simplest explanation without any other information.

Hello @Aastha ,
In ServiceNow, Configuration Items (CIs) represent the various components or assets within an IT infrastructure. Multiple CIs can be associated with a single asset record to capture the diverse elements that make up that asset. This approach allows for a more granular representation of the different configuration items related to a specific asset. Here's an example to illustrate this concept:
Let's consider a server as the asset. The server can have multiple configuration items associated with it, each representing a different aspect of its configuration or components:
Server Hardware CI:
- Represents the physical hardware components of the server, such as the processor, memory modules, storage devices, etc.
Operating System CI:
- Represents the operating system installed on the server, including details like the version, patches, and configuration settings.
Network Interface CI:
- Represents the network interfaces of the server, including IP addresses, MAC addresses, and related network configurations.
Application CI:
- Represents any specific applications or software installed and configured on the server.
By associating these different CIs with the single asset record for the server, you can maintain a comprehensive view of its configuration. Each CI provides specific details and attributes related to a particular aspect of the server's functionality.
For instance, if there's an issue with the server's performance, having separate CIs for hardware, operating system, network, and applications allows IT teams to quickly identify the relevant area of concern. This structured approach to configuration management helps in troubleshooting, change management, and overall IT service management.
Kindly mark the answer ✔️Correct or Helpful ✔️If it addresses your concern.
Regards,
Siddhesh
