Why workflow stage icon still current blue arrow in Item Approval stage when rejected?

I have test it that when the item approval approved(business approval is set as pre-approved), the item approval stage icon marked as green check and proceed to fulfiller and complete the task. Now if the item approval rejected, the icon should marked as red X as approval rejected but the item approval stage icon still in blue arrow active icon even though the state in RITM is "Closed Complete" and the stages icon after that became gray with arrow over dot which it mean skipped. Anyone know why that icon in item approval stage doesn't turn to red "X" icon as approval rejected?

In my experience to make the workflow stages render properly on approvals, you need to add a stage to all of your activities involved in the approval. You can use the defualt "Waiting for Approval" stage or create your own.

1) Have an Approval Action setting the Approval to "Requested" before you Approval - Group activity. Its important that you also set the "Waiting for Approval" stage in this activity

2) Your Approval Action after the Approval - Group activity MUST also have the   "Waiting for Approval" stage on it

There is one thing I missed is that I forget to select the stage as "approval" in Approval - Group box and Approval Action after either approved or rejected. Before it was empty which is why it doesn't know where to go next stage when either approved or rejected so it remain in approval stage even though the ticket status is completed or cancelled . There is no needed to add approval action box before the Approval - Group.
