Digital Product Release (DPR) Quick Start Guide

In this guide you’ll find key considerations prior to beginning your implementation and links to important documents that will guide you through your implementation.

Before getting started, please consider the following:

Customer Type

Are you a new or upgrade customer? New customers of ITSM Pro will have DPR enabled by default and can begin configuring and working in their instance right away. Upgrade customers will have to download and install DPR from the ServiceNow® Store upon upgrade to Vancouver Patch 5 or later.

Understand Your Existing Release Process

Before starting your DPR implementation, it’s important that you have a thorough understanding of your organization’s current release process. It’s helpful to document this process, including key stakeholders and dependencies, as much of your implementation will involve translating your existing process into DPR. For guidance, refer to this DPR Workshop Guide (login required). If you are unaware of your existing process, we suggest working with a partner or talking to your account representative about ServiceNow Expert Services.

Configurations and Customizations

If you're upgrading from Release Management v2, you may have a high level of customization in your instance. To help this transition, DPR comes with Migration utility tools. We also prepared the following FAQ specific to the RMv2 end-of-life process. If you need additional support, please work with your account representative to identify which support option is the best for you.

From a UI perspective, we don’t anticipate much customization necessary for DPR. The bulk of the effort comes in defining your release process via approval definitions, policies, and release templates.

Release Strategy

Consider how you will deploy DPR to your production instance. It is highly recommended that you first do all your work in a sub-prod environment to ensure everything operates as expected. Then you should go through your company's normal release processes to make the configuration changes in production.
