How is the planned start date/end date set?

In DPR, when you go the release list view, by default there is the Planned start and end date column. How are these set? When double clicking them, the box is greyed out with the message "Security prevents writing to this field."

In this ServiceNow Community video the fields are populated:

Thank you for any help in this.

In this session, we'll close out our discussion on the maturity journey by taking a deep dive into policy definitions. We'll review the anatomy of a policy and show how you can define custom approval policies to automate release validation.

Hi @LorenzVdV

  • Open a Release record directly from the form.
  • Verify whether the Planned Start Date and Planned End Date are editable on the form.
  • Check field ACLs:
    • write
    • list_edit
  • Review Dictionary settings for the fields.
  • Check UI Policies and Client Scripts affecting those fields.

Hi  @LorenzVdV ,

The planned start and end dates are derived from the Release target you selected for the timeline release.

The Release target is treated as the release date and is linked to the end date of the Readiness phase.

From there, the planned start and end dates are calculated based on each phase’s duration.

If you want to define your own timelines instead of using a time-based setup, it is better to choose stage-based releases, since you can assign your own planned start and end dates to the release phases.

For more details please refer following documentation:

Timeline release process: https://www.servicenow.com/docs/r/it-service-management/digital-product-release/dpr-working-timeline...

Stage release: https://www.servicenow.com/docs/r/it-service-management/digital-product-release/dpr-working-stage-re...https://www.servicenow.com/docs/r/it-service-management/digital-product-release/dpr-working-stage-re...

Thank you for your reply, Suryakiran!

I was able to create a timeline release, and the fields are filled in: great!

But I don't understand how they work in stage releases. "you can assign your own planned start and end dates to the release phases", how do I do this? I'm not able to in the release template, nor in an ongoing release.

Thank you

Lorenz

Hi @LorenzVdV ,

Releases don’t support adding at the list level. If you open the release, go to the release timeline and edit the summary card. There you can add your required planned start and end dates.
