Why is there no reference from App Product Model to Business App?

Hi,

I started playing around wit the DPR product  a bit. Currently I'm exploring the possibility to create approvals within Release Phases. The overall functionality looks really nice, but I'm wondering why I can only select Users or Groups from the App Product Model record and not from the Business Application itself. Technically it seems as there is no reference on the Model to the Business App.

I understand why there is no reference in this direction generally (as mostly there are many CIs connected to a single model and not vice versa), but for Business Apps, is it not more of a 1:1 relation?

I think it would provide more flexibility to be able to e.g. select IT Owner or Business owner, or other field of an App for specific approvals. I know we can synchronize any of those to be copied to the Product Owner on the Model record but that is always extra customization...

Any thoughts?

Hi @Tom Sienkiewicz ,

There is a relationship between the Business Application and the CMDB Model tables.

If you link the model_id (from the cmdb_model table) to your Business Application (cmdb_ci_business_app), the reference link will appear on the Product details page of DPR—just as shown in the attached screenshot.

But the relationship you mention is from the Business App to the Model, not the other way around, right?

Do you know if there are any plans to maybe add a reference on the Application Model table to the Business App?

After recent discussions with SN SPM team, related to Digital Product roadmap, I think that it is probably justified to not have a 1:1 reference from an App Product Model to Business App. The reason being flexibility, while maybe not a frequent scenario, apparently the idea is that customers can more "freely" define their Digital Products and some of those might be e.g. parents to several other products and thus be related to more than one Business Application. Having a fixed 1:1 reference would go against that idea.

So I think I have my answer but if there's any other feedback you can share I'd be happy to see it. Thanks!
