Hi Buddy,
This usually happens when the custom asset doesnt meet the specific requirements Indoor Maps looks for. The demo assets work because they follow the OOTB asset model and configuration.
I would recommend checking the custom asset:
Extends the correct OOTB asset table (for example, alm_asset)
Has the correct Location, Building, Floor, and Space populated
Has been explicitly placed on the indoor map (not just assigned to a floor)
Is in an active/valid asset state and not filtered out
Indoor Maps wont really automatically display custom asset records unless they match the supported asset classes and are properly positioned on the map
