Hello @adilalee200 ,
In ServiceNow, a Lifecycle Template serves as a standardized, automated framework designed to manage the end-to-end journey of an entity, such as a hardware asset or an employee, ensuring that every transition is consistent, compliant, and data-driven. The core purpose of creating these templates is to eliminate the manual overhead and "data silos" that occur when different departments—like IT, Finance, and HR—handle an asset independently. By defining a rigid roadmap of Lifecycle Stages (e.g., Fulfillment, Operational, Retired) and Status fields (e.g., On Order, In Use, Disposed), the template acts as an orchestration engine that automatically updates the CMDB and triggers specific business tasks at the right time. This prevents "ghost assets," ensures hardware is wiped for security before disposal, and provides an accurate audit trail for financial depreciation and regulatory compliance.
In a real-time management scenario, consider the lifecycle of a high-end corporate workstation. When a request is approved, the template initiates the Fulfillment stage, setting the status to On Order and notifying the vendor. Once received, the template automatically shifts the asset to Inventory status until it is assigned to a developer, at which point it enters the Operational stage and is linked to the user’s profile for cost-center tracking. Throughout its "In Use" life, the template can monitor warranty dates or trigger a refresh task after three years. Finally, when the workstation reaches its end-of-life, the template mandates a strict Retirement workflow: it forces a technician to attach a "Data Wipe Certificate," triggers a task for Finance to record the asset's disposal, and eventually moves the record to a Disposed status. This end-to-end automation ensures that the organization never loses track of its investment, maintains a clean security posture, and automates the tedious administrative handoffs between teams.

Hello @adilalee200 ,
Basically lifecycle templates in SN are used to manage and automate the asset lifecycle by defining stages and transitions.
According to ServiceNow documentation, calculated lifecycle templates help manage the complete lifecycle of hardware models. The IT asset lifecycle itself represents the stages an asset goes through from procurement to retirement, ensuring visibility and control. This enables organizations to optimize asset usage, reduce costs, and make informed decisions about maintenance and disposal.
