In this short Blog, I will outline a small check that should be performed when configuring Employee Service Center in Now Mobile. I had been wracking my brain as to why I was having some issues with forms behavior in Now Mobile using Employee Service Center and with help from our Support team came across this solution. So if it helps me will hopefully help others!

 

Issue

When configuring Employee Service Center in Now Mobile, you are required to use and configure the /mesp portal record. Employee Service Center works in Now Mobile by pages being rendered into the mobile app. This is different to how Now Mobile worked with catalogs and previously.

 

Now typically the /mesp record is going to come as part of your Plugin install and have everything you need and all you are required to do is define a taxonomy. However if you come across some of the below behaviors , 

 

- Dropdown fields/menus on Record Producers appear obscure and not scaled correctly.

- Dropdown fields/menus on Record producers become 'stuck'. They do not close even when a selection is made, blocking progress on the form.

- Various design inconsistencies and overall poor scaling and looks.

Resolution

To resolve the above issues, and potentially other obscure scaling or rendering issues with Employee Service Center in Now Mobile. 

 

1) Navigate to Portals 

2) Open the Mobile Employee Service Portal record (/mesp)

3) Confirm the Theme is set to Mobile Employee Next Experience Theme

In some environments or instances, the theme for /mesp will be set to ESC Theme. This will mean in Now Mobile, it will be attempting to render the desktop based theme. 

 

Changing to Mobile Employee Next Experience Theme ensures the mobile specific theme is being rendered, and you are experiencing the desired Mobile experience.
