Content Publishing Types - Banner vs. Styled Content

When creating portal content, other than the configurations available for each, is there a significant different between the two - Styled Content banners and the Banners content options? Any recommendations?

Are there use cases for each? Pros/Cons? Any documentation available that can help develop a strategy for when to use each?

Right now, I am using the Styled Content option for topic pages/managerhub (taxonomy) and the Banners Content option for Homepage (ec_pro_dashboard)...

Hi Karen,

I haven't played with Banner content type in a while.  The Styled Content allows you to create banner styles also, while also allowing you to change the placement and format of the text and use different backgrounds (e.g., video).

Banners allow you to only add a background image, add text and a button or link.  You cannot control where that text appears on the background image from the content library configuration (you'd need to override the CSS to do this), so depending on the image being used, the "Banner" type may not work well (e.g., cannot read the message over the image).  Most of my clients use the Styled Content for the homepage, topic pages, etc. to give them more control over the look of it.

Thanks Susan! My team and I had the same thoughts but wanted to validate/get other perspectives. 🙂
