Is it hard to find a ServiceNow Developer that is also a great ServiceNow UX Designer?

Has anyone had any luck with finding someone who is both a ServiceNow Developer & a great ServiceNow UX Designer? Thanks.

@BeWhy It is very rare to find a person who is very good in user experience and at the same time a good developer.

A developer starts to envision a solution technically the moment the hear the requirement, whereas a UX designer starts to think about the prototypes of the design and user experience the moment they know the requirements.

Since these are two different personas and their job descriptions are poles apart, it is quite natural for this combination to be rare. I can only imagine a person having both the skill sets having constant battles between the technical and the design perspectives.

Hi @BeWhy ,

Lol , Thats very true !

I have seen compnies hiring full stack or UI/UX developers and train them in servicenow environment and use them for UI/UX devlopement.

Hey @BeWhy,

They're definitely out there; granted, it is rare to find a resource exceptional at both. My advice would be to remember that everything is teachable, so choose the role that means the most to you/your org and then help them grow into the other. Considering normally a UX designer has more of an eye for that sort of thing maybe look for that and then teach the dev side. Hope that helps some!

Cheers,

Josh

That's great to hear, Josh! I come from 20+ years of design. Graphic/Web/UX and now, ServiceNow UX. While working with a Developer on a project, I took the last few days and developed (in my personal Dev instance) the custom version of the portal I designed. I haven't plugged in all the taxonomy and Dev requests from the stories, but I got it to match my design and responsive functionality. I might tell my boss that SN Dev is something I want to learn more as my main goal this year. Thanks again!

That's awesome! I would recommend it, expanding your own skills is just going to help out the team overall. Plus it's always fun learning something new. Good luck!
