Taxonomy bar not updating

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to add a new Taxonomy topic to the main bar in the Employee Center. However, After following all the guides and instructions the bar is not updating. 

My current Taxonomy is OOTB. I want to add a "Marketing" option that has a dropdown for catalog items. I have Cloned the Employee Taxonomy and created the new topic, added connected content and child topics. Under Portal taxonomy i removed the default one and added my clone. Now the bar is empty.

I can change the portal taxonomy back to the original one and all of the out of the box ones show up again. 

What am i missing here? From what i have read all i need for these options to show up are connected content attached to them. Please help 🙂

So i don't know if it is a bug or not but i was able to accomplish what i needed by sort of doing it in reverse.

Instead of going to the employee taxonomy i just went to topics and created a new one then when it asked me to choose a taxonomy i picked the default "Employees" then i added connected content and it shows up correctly.

We figured it out, and its kinda silly.

On the Advanced Portal page

instead of clicking on the EMPLOYEE name, you click on TRUE and get a different menu, then can sync and it fixed the issue I had.
