Why is Service Portal changing?

Our organization ultimately uses this as a Service Portal - IT requests and service requests.  Do you have an FAQ about why this is changing? What happens if we dont change? If we are not using HR component, why are we calling it Employee Center Portal and not just Service Portal?

Hello,

Service Portal will still be around. Employee Center and all that is more for organizations who want a unified portal as an enterprise solution.

You can just stay on SP if that's only relevant to you.

Otherwise, for more info on EC and EC Pro, you can look at the documentation for it as it contains descriptions and marketing notes, etc.

Hi Kyle,

Current SP portal is not deprecated but down the line, as part of the product roadmap, it might be decommissioned.  Basically, there won't be any major innovations or enhancements in the existing SP portal. ServiceNow recommends to migrate  either to Employee Center or Employee Center Pro version. This change was majorly introduced from the Rome release onwards. Existing SP portal is more IT-centric and some customers have separate HR, knowledge etc portal so the new EC portal provides a unified employee experience.

I understand, that the naming convention is a bit confusing but Employee Center is available standard as part of the platform so even if you don't use the HR module, it should be available as part of the platform. EC pro store app has license impact, existing customers using Employee Service Center can move to EC pro, for new customers Available with HRSD Pro, HRSD Ent, or separately licensed customers via ServiceNow Store (first released on September 16, 2021, for customers on Rome)
