What to do with existing x509 certificate record in SNOW when renewing

Hello all,
I'm preparing to update our SNOW instances with updated x509 certificates for the first time (please bear with me).
From what I have read it looks like I need to simply create a new x509 certificate record in SNOW with the new certificate.
Question: What do I do with the existing x509 certificate record that is due to expire? Do I just leave it there and it will switch over to the new certificate after it expires?
