BCM BIA & Plan Versioning

Audit requirement that both BIA's and Plans be produced with previous versions.  

We have elected to make a copy, pull in the attributes and create a relationship but this is not the most user friendly experience on BCM version control.  

 

Has anyone done anything different?

Do the NowGuru's have any other recommended solutions to this challenge.

Option 2 is the best fit until we have something OOTB for BCM, considering the fact that we have user experience implications.
