Technical suppprt career path

Hello everyone,
This is Sanjay. I have around 5 months of experience in technical support, and now I want to start my career as a ServiceNow Administrator. However, I’m a bit confused about how to begin and what steps I should follow, as I’m still a fresher in ServiceNow.

I’ve recently started a ServiceNow course on Udemy, and I’d like guidance on the right learning path. I also want to understand the career scope, salary growth, and how I can land my first job as a ServiceNow Admin.

If anyone here has experience in ServiceNow or can share suggestions, resources, or a roadmap, it would be really helpful.
Thank you

Hi @dev_sanjay,

Welcome to the world of ServiceNow!

In terms of how to begin I'd recommend:
Getting a free PDI (Personal Developer Instance) from Developer and practice what you learn there. There are also courses and guides on Developer that will take you through key learning - Home | ServiceNow Developers

Get an account on ServiceNow University - home | ServiceNow University | ServiceNow - on ServiceNow University focus on ServiceNow Fundamentals and the Admin Learning Paths.

Learn about core tables and processes - CMDB, Users, Groups, Roles, and some of the ITSM/ITIL focussed pieces - Change, Incident, Request.

Practice Configuration: forms, lists, UI policies, client scripts, business rules, notifications.

Advance Knowledge Further: Flow Designer, Service Catalog, Basic Integrations.

Udemy can help, and is great - but my experience, most teams expect ServiceNow University and hands on PDI work.

Most ServiceNow roles look for ServiceNow CSA (Certified System Administrator) - This is achievable after you complete the fundamentals training.

The career can take you into many different places - from admin to developer, Architect, Business Analyst, Tester, Platform Owner etc. etc. Really depends on what your interests and skills are. Most will probably start working with ITSM and then grow their skills to other modules and either specialise further or remain generalised across many.

Keep going and remain consistent! Good Luck!

Hope it helps others starting their ServiceNow journey.

Hi, thank you for the guidance. I’ll focus more on Service now university, get a PDI, and practice core ITSM areas like Incident,Change and request, along with admin configurations. My goal is to complete the fundamentals, get CSA certified, and gain hands-on experience.

Really appreciate you sharing this roadmap
