Asset reclaim, what happens when the asset is not reclaimed/ returned?

Is there any OOB functionality within the Asset Reclamation process to handle cases where an employee fails to return a company asset? For example, allowing the asset to be marked as "not received," automatically updating the asset status to "Missing," and triggering follow-up actions such as creating a task for IT to remotely wipe or block the device?

Within the Receive Asset task, there is a mandatory checkbox:

Is asset reclaimed? - Select this check box if you’ve received the asset(s). This field is mandatory.

However,
in real-life scenarios, employees may fail to return company assets, and the current process does not appear to provide a way to indicate that an asset was not received.

Is there any OOB functionality that covers this use case? Specifically:

  • Allowing the asset to be marked as not received.
  • Automatically updating the asset state to Missing (or another appropriate status).
  • Creating a follow-up task for IT to perform actions such as wiping or blocking the laptop remotely.

If not, what is the recommended ServiceNow approach for handling unreturned assets within the Asset Reclamation process?

Thanks in advance!

ServiceNow leans on the happy flow for this. You will need to add custom logic for this.
