Hi all,
I’m looking for guidance on the best approach to manage and maintain hardware product models and catalog items for our one of the regions , specifically for hardware not procured through Insight.
We’re trying to define an efficient and scalable process for hardware asset responsible managers, and would appreciate your recommendations on the following:
- Is it better to manage updates through a catalog item request (handled by an ITAM developer), or to provide direct access for maintaining product models and catalog items?
- What would be the lowest-effort / lowest-impact approach for hardware asset owners in ITS to keep these records up to date?
- Are there any automation strategies (e.g., workflows, triggers, integrations) that can help with creating or updating product models and catalog items?
Any best practices, lessons learned, or examples from your implementations would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance!

Hi @ramesham , As per the best practice, we should be getting the product and hardware models through discovery and they will be updated by discovery itself. Additionally, you should define normalization rules for the product models.
You should not be ideally giving access to anyone to update the products manually except the ITAM managers.
