Duplicate hardware models keep reappearing after Discovery

Hi Community,
We have identified two records in cmdb_hardware_product_model (Model A and Model B) that represent the same physical model, with the same manufacturer and effectively the same name. Both have assets (alm_hardware) and CIs (cmdb_ci_*) linked to them. What is the recommended way to consolidate them into one golden model, and how should the assets and CIs be handled so that the CI model_id stays correct and is not reverted by Discovery or IRE?
In addition, even when we delete the duplicate model, Discovery recreates it on the next run. What is the root cause and the permanent fix? Is it a mismatch between the discovered manufacturer/model strings and our golden model, and can Hardware Model Normalization or retiring the duplicate (instead of deleting it) prevent this from happening again?
Thank you!

Suggesting Normalisation: https://intelibliss.com/insights/hardware-model-normalisation-in-servicenow/
Hope that helps!
