Dear Vikal,
Below is the list I can think of.
1. Understand the COE model (Services have 4 tier hierarchy Service -> Topic detail -> Topic Category -> COE)
2. Never touch the OOB workflows to update the onboarding or other life cycle events, always use activity sets and activities.
3. Understand how the HR applications secure the data, as it is a little different for ITSM and other platform modules.
4. Assign only required roles to users based on the job profile, HR core comes with HR Basic, HR Manager and HR Admin roles so use them wisely.
5. Once the implementation is complete remove the HR application specific roles to the system administrator to truly safeguard the security features of the HR applications.
6. Make effective use of the COE model and the various HR case child tables.
7. Define HR Services using COE model.
8. Make best use of Managed documents module to automate the processes like sign offer letter.
9. Understand the trigger conditions in activity sets.
10. Make best use of the knowledge base to provide self help.
11. HR Service Portal (Employee Service Center) is very powerful and provides lot of widgets OOO and are configured on the landing page itself, so understand how the visibility of the widgets are controlled.
12. Understand HR criteria and how its different from user criteria
13. Understand the new HR case creation form, how to configure it to show additional fields, how to control the lookup options on the case form.
14. Make best use of HR case templates and HR task templates
15. Understand the link generator functionality and its applications, its very useful.
16. Understand the restrict application caller access and how it can used to allow / restrict the accessibility from the HR scoped application.
17. Clearly identify the Shared services that would be using the HR application like Payroll, Benefits, talent management and so on.
