Thanks @Abbas_5. That looks promising. I checked with HI and that would require at least one paid NowAssist plugins, and that's not within our consideration at the moment.
Anyway, I was able to add the feature I was aiming for through trial and error. All that's needed is to plug it in the theme's header. Now I have this:

Hello @jiral,
Yes, there is an ongoing development and enhancement for the chat functionality in the ESC portal to allow for a docked chat experience instead of the traditional pop-up. This is being achieved by enabling the "Enhanced Chat" feature, which integrates the chat directly into the portal page.
