Knowledge Management

Hi, me and my Team are managing Knowledge for our HRSD module.  Some of our articles have moved to 'outdated' workflow and owners would like to retire them.  We don't seem to be able to retire without having to republish the article first.  I would have thought that a 'retire' button should appear in the top right corner for the owner to submit that article for retiring.  However, no-one seems to be able to do this straight from 'outdated'.  Seems a long way round having to republish first then having to retire, lots of back and forth for approvals etc.  Anyone else having to do this or can anyone offer suggestions?  Thanks
