What works currently is - when one enters the meta/tag word into AI enabled search bar and hits enter; it would return expected catalog item as the result
However , what doesn't work is if you enter the meta/tag word into AI search bar and expect it to show a "Suggested" recommendation on the dropdown pane prior to hitting enter . If you replace the meta / tag search key with the catalog item name (as you type in) it does show the catalog item in the Suggested section.
I consider this to be a major gap with AI search given that this feature works with legacy search engine on Service Portal

It doesn't appear they have ever fixed this or updated this. Even after adding "meta" to the search source, it still doesn't work after indexing.
Did you ever get the Meta working in AI Search for "Suggested" typeahead search?
That annotation that used to exists above Meta which mentioned "not applicable if AI Search is enabled" doesn't exist any longer, at least not in Yokahoma Patch 7 Hot Fix 2:
