I have updated my PDI to the Washington, DC, version and played with some features, so I would like to share my hands-on experience here.

 

Washington DC Features:

  1. Save a draft of a catalog item
  2. Delegated Admin
  3. Time-limited User Role
  4. Clone Admin Console

Save a draft of a catalog item

This is new feature to allow you to save a draft of a catalog item while requesting it on the Employee Center, Service Portal, and Now Mobile.

 

Steps:

  • Navigate to All > Employee Center > IT
  • Open the item you want to submit your request
  • Edit the item and click "Save as Draft"

Delegated Admin

A system administrator can assign a non-administrator user or group as a developer or deployment resource for a specific application

 

Step 1 - You need to access to your scoped app - navigate to All > System Applications > My Company Applications.

Step 2 - Click the name of the application to which you want to add developers.

Step 3 - Click Manage Developers.

Time-limited User Role

Washington feature: time-limited User roles provide temporary access to the users for a specific time period to improve the efficiency of work in ServiceNow and complete deliverables without delegating roles. This feature can be used for the testing as well.

 

Step 1- find Time-Limited User Role key word through App Navigation Search and click new

Step 2 - Impersonate to person granted the time limited role.  You will see message regarding the time-limited role granted.

Request a clone in Clone Admin Console

The Clone Admin Console is a new UI feature to request a clone. The new UI is on top of the existing clone engine. You can submit your clone request using the following steps:

 

Step 1: Navigate to All > Clone Admin Console > Clone Dashboard.

Step 2 - Click the "Request Clone" button to open the following form, and then fill in the information required.

Workflow Studio

Integrate workflow authoring, configuring, and monitoring into a-single page experience. Consolidate PlaybooksFlow DesignerAction DesignerIntegration Hub integrations, and Decision Builder into one design environment.

 

Workflow Studio new features contains:

1) Decision Builder;

2) Flow Designer;

3) Integration Hub Connections dashboard;

4) Playbooks

Fire Event Action

I have mentioned h4 ways to trigger an email notification through Flow in my blog- (https://www.servicenow.com/community/in-other-news/four-flow-notification-approaches-action-script-t...) .  However, Washington release release has new feature -"Fire Event" action, which we can trigger any event via your flow like below:

Analyze Control Enhancement

In this new feature, the new temporary role has a limited time for users and groups to compare.

You can navigate to All > Access Analyzer > Analyze Permissions, so the Analyze access and permissions homepage is displayed.

 

Step 1 -Define the user and table by selecting users or groups

keyboard Shortcuts - Next Experience

The keyboard shortcuts feature from the Washington DC release will improve the layout for scalability. You can use keyboard shortcuts to quickly perform common actions in the user interface.  There is a good article -The Washington DC release brings new keyboard shortcuts posted by @Mark Roethof for your reference.

Scripts-background Update 

Monaco JavaScripter Editor has been added to the Scripts-Background module. There are some features: 1) Toolbar; 2) Line Number; 3) Mini-Viewer; 4) Colored Keywords. When you use GlideSystem or gliderecord objects, you can review all their functions like other server editors (Business Rule and Script Include).

Flow Designer - AutoSave

When user make any change or create new flow action, changes will be automatically saved.  The following use case is when you click "Done" button,  all changes for that flow action will be auto saved.

You can follow the steps below to add an annotation to the flow action.

Step 1 - Change to Flow Diagram view

Schedule Meeting as a HR Task Type 

The new HR Task of type “Schedule a meeting”  feature  helps HR agents to schedule an in meeting  with an employee.

Step 1 - the MS outlook spoke configuration enable the UI button “schedule calendar invite” so you can view the employees' calendar to book a meeting

Step 2 - Navigate to HR Agent workspace to open the open HR case and then create new HR task by selecting “Schedule a meeting” and select all Attendees

Step 3 - Open the attendee's outlook calendar by clicking " Schedule Calendar Invite" button to book a meeting.
