Victoria Lo, ITOM Outbound Product Manager

By now you've probably read about Idris Elba at the Sphere from Michael's post — I was personally most excited for the Backstreet Boys and unfortunately did not get the "wear all white memo" until I landed in Vegas.

The level of live sound and visual production at the Sphere was insane, my first concert was nothing like that. And to think this production and quality is standard now! Technology has advanced so much over the years, it's hard to believe where it all started.

That's the arc we're on with AIOps right now. This release introduces our AIOps AI Specialist — a digital teammate that can take the 1 AM alert, do the first pass of investigation, and hand your team a real answer instead of a late-night page with little context and an unknown potential impact. It's launching in controlled availability, which just means we're bringing customers on deliberately, working closely with each one to get their setup right, rather than flipping it on for everyone simultaneously.

If you want to participate in controlled availability for the AIOps AI Specialist, talk to your account team to get involved. You must already be licensed for Now Assist for ITOM prior to this engagement.

Getting started without the guesswork

Apparently, installing a new operating system used to mean hand-picking drivers and hoping you guessed your IRQ settings right. Now you click "next" a few times and it's done, which is what I am used to admittedly. The new ITOM Product Hub gives admins one-click installation and updates for everything they're entitled to under ITOM Visibility and AIOps, instead of hunting down and manually managing individual apps and plugins.

Paired with the new Configuration Console for Event Management, organizations onboarding Event Management on an instance can get a guided walkthrough of setup — platform foundations, integration accounts, integrating monitoring tools, creating alert grouping automations — with progress tracked the whole way and changes packaged for promotion to production. Think of it as the best onboarding checklist event management never had (or did once have if you recall the old ITOM guided setups).

Alert grouping with recommendations!

Spell-check used to just underline the word and leave the fixing to you. Now your phone finishes the sentence before you do. Last quarter we made it easier to define and refine alert groups by hand. This quarter, the platform starts doing some of that thinking for you. Proactive Alert Grouping Recommendations analyze your CMDB relationships, tags, and grouping patterns and surface contextual, actionable suggestions — which you can simulate, fine-tune, or ignore, on whatever cadence makes sense for your team, from ad hoc to weekly to quarterly. Less time staring at a wall of alerts trying to find the pattern; more time acting on the pattern once it's already been drawn out for you.

The new around-the-clock teammates

This is the headline.  The AIOps AI Specialist can autonomously triage and investigate alerts, and close the ones that turn out to be noise. Additionally, through the SRE AI Agent, which can be invoked by the AI Specialist, deeper investigation is enabled by querying metrics, logs, and entities directly from your observability backends (Dynatrace, New Relic, Datadog, LogicMonitor, and several more) without having to leave ServiceNow.

Recommended remediations get logged with full explanation in the work notes, and nothing executes without a human reviewing it first. This is the shift left of manual work that traditional operators have to do, allowing them effectively prioritize issues & act as an AI supervisor.

And for resolved incidents, the SRE AI agent can analyze for reliability gaps, looking for if a SLO or a synthetic monitor should exist so services can effectively be managed and hopefully detect issues earlier going forward.

We have also released the first version of our ITOM MCP Server, which lets you connect a ServiceNow instance to any MCP-enabled client — Claude, Moveworks, whatever your organization has standardized on. The current tools allow you to pull alert and CI reliability information through natural conversation instead of a custom integration. If your team is already experimenting with working with MCP servers elsewhere in the business, this is the on-ramp that lets ITOM data join that conversation too. This feature is currently in controlled availability, so please work with your account team if you are entitled to Now Assist for ITOM & are interested in early adoption.

Observability that keeps pace with what you already run

Service Observability now supports LogicMonitor as a native data source, with guided setup, entity mapping for services, hosts, and databases, and metrics surfaced directly on the services you manage.

If LogicMonitor is already part of your monitoring stack, this is day-one coverage with no console-switching required. And for synthetic monitoring, this release focused on enhancements that should improve the overall performance.

Why this matters beyond the feature list

Autonomous IT arrives as a series of steps: the routine gets automated, the noise gets filtered, and the humans left in the loop spend their time on judgment calls instead of triage. ITOMs first AI Specialist is the clearest example yet of what that looks like in practice, changing what "on call" means for your team. And the GA capabilities underneath — faster onboarding, smarter grouping, broader observability coverage — are what make that vision usable today, whether or not you're ready for the specialist yet.

Final thoughts (until the next blog)

Most organizations are not ready for AI Specialists to do everything for them, and we understand that which is why we want to build trust across organizations ensure there are humans in the loop. Remember, AI should make your lives easier, not harder! We have a lot of new features coming out through the end of 2026... can't believe we're already more than halfway through the year. Until the next blog, hope to catch you in one of our online webinars or workshops & happy summer (or winter in the southern hemisphere)!
