AWS Discovery - Resources not discovered

Hello,

With the use of a "Master" AWS account, I am able to discover the different data centers and the service accounts.

I still didn't configure a MID server in the AWS and just using the Account ID, Secret Key and Access Key I was able to discover the data centers and the service accounts.

I was going through the ServiceNow docs and it is referring to the Cloud Management to discover the resources - https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/madrid-it-operations-management/page/product/cloud-management-v2-...

Can you please help me understand the following

1) Is Cloud Management required to discover the resources of an AWS data center?

2) Can I discover the resources without a MID server?

3) What else do I need to discover the resources?

to qn 1 - Cloud Discovery is part of your Discovery entitlements. parts of CMP is used for doing this, you don't need to "purchase" CMP for this. See this page - https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/madrid-it-operations-management/page/product/discovery/concept/cl...

to qn 2 - yes mid is needed

to qn 3 - you typically need access to cloud - in the form of credentials / service account. if you are on a gov cloud account, some additional configuration changes are needed (which again, is documented).

I have been given a Account ID, Secret Access Key and Access Key ID with which I was able to discover just the Data Centers and the Service Accounts.

And also its not a Gov. cloud.

My question about MID server is for just the resources not the VMs. Do I still need a MID just to discover the resources?

Hi Paul, i assume you are using the ServiceNow cloud management plugin.

MID is absolutely needed. Even the datacenter listing that you ran would have gone through one of your existing MIDs.

here's the trail showing the ListDatacenters call going through a particular mid.

HI,

 

1) No, CMP is not required to discover AWS cloud resource's. We need is subscription id and AWS cloud account i.e. Account id and Keys.

2) Yes MID server is required.

3) No, nothing else is required.
