We are currently running both cloud discovery (azure) and on-prem discovery across our estate.
On-prem runs at the weekends and cloud during the weekdays
However, we have seen the the Cloud discovery has been creating some of the Azure server records in the windows server table, instead of the virtual machine instance table.
I've checked the timestamps and created by accounts, and it's defiantly the Azure discovery creating the windows servers. We can also see the object ID being populated in the correlation ID field for these records.
Further, for these records, a virtual machine instance record already exists and Azure discovery is putting a "Virtualized by::Virtualizes" relationship between the two.
I've checked the documentation, and it shows there should be no creation in the windows server table, and this relationship type also shouldn't get created.

Does anyone know what could be happening here?
We are currently running San Diego patch 7 with discovery updated to the latest available version

While creating a schedule for Cloud Discovery if you opt for IP discovery there would be a separate VM schedule created and would be run on VM Instances which are active and have public ip address populated in the CMDB.
This IP address list would be passed on dynamically to the VM schedule each time the cloud discovery runs.

Here is the documentation specifying this option:
The option is called Discover Virtual Machines (optional). In the first document you will find the information regarding IP discovery under the heading ""IP-based discovery" and in the second document under "Enable discovery of virtual machines".
