Can CI's (hardware CI's) install status be flipped to maintenance mode automatically?

Background: Due to third Sunday maintenance, we experience incident storms. The maintenance occurs late at night and is performed by the Infra team, which neither works in ServiceNow (SN) nor can handle it manually. Additionally, our CMDB isn't fully mature, resulting in some gaps.

Requirement: We want the CI status to automatically change to maintenance mode when the main schedule is attached to it.

Additional Details: I am aware that this can be achieved via a change request when it's in the implement/schedule state. However, someone would need to be up at night to do this within SN. I am also familiar with maintenance rules and have experimented with them.

Is there any way to automate flipping the CI install status to maintenance mode and then back to installed once maintenance is over, without requiring a change request?

Thank community!

Hi @NCS1

Outside of the larger problems around CMDB you've mentioned, I'm assuming you're not using SN Event Management as EM should automatically react to schedules if they are attached to the corresponding CIs?

If you're not using EM how are the Incidents getting generated?

We do use Event management; however even though we attach maintenance schedule along the CI's do NOT go in maint state.

Thanks for that, it sounds like the Maintenance Rules are not working properly with any CI's included in the Change Request as part of Change Management
Create Maintenance Rules
But since you've already mentioned that there are problems within the CMDB, it may make more sense to look at suppressing all Alerts during a Maintenance Window while you work on the CMDB quality issues.  This is a link to a ServiceNow Support article on achieving that.
How to suppress all alerts during maintenance window irrespective of CI's

Please Note: This is severely dangerous, as it suppresses all Alerts, so be careful with its usage, treat it as a short term measure & make sure everyone knows that getting the CMDB quality up is of paramount importance.
