CIs got removed from CMDB

Hi,

I am relatively new to Discovery. There were a few CIs that were discovered earlier but now when I search the CMDB, they are not present. I have read somewhere that even when the CI gets decommissioned, it is not removed from the CMDB.

A point to note here is, after checking the discovery logs, some discovery messages says "Not exploring CI [ci name]" for that particular CI. When I click on the CI name, it takes me to another CI record that belongs to the same IP range. I am unable to understand this error. Also the change requests that were raised for these removed CIs now are updated with another CI from the same IP ranges automatically. This is weird and I am unable to understand the cause.

Please help in troubleshooting the error message and the cause in the CI removal.

I would check the Deleted Records table first.   When records are deleted, they go here.   It's a form of Recycle Bin.   Not all records will appear in this list.   If your missing records are here, they will tell you who and when they were deleted.

If it's a user, get your baseball bat.   If it is Discovery, your real hunt begins.

Not exploring CI usually means there is a duplicate CI in the CMDB and when this happens, discovery will not update any of them, because it doesn't know which one is the right one.

The error doesn't exactly make sense with what you're seeing though.

If you click on the CI and get results on a record you were not expecting, I'd suspect that the original record had some matching identifiers with the new records being discovered and cause Discovery to think it was the same record and update the different values.
