Discover some Linux appliances

Hello All,

I am currently working on a setup to automatically discover some Linux appliances so that those can be discovered automatically through MID server and CMDB gets updated with required information.

Currently those appliances were added to CMDB manually with respective CI details (IP, Hostname and other details).

While running the discovery job from the source MID server to those targeted appliance IPs,  I am getting below error.

Cannot connect, status is SSH_PROTOCOL_FAILURE. Received server DISCONNECT message: DISCONNECT: code: 15, reason: Illegal user name, description: Username doesn't contain '%%' or '@'

May I know what will be the best solution to fix the issue and will have a successful discovery on appliances.

Also May I know what all the steps I need to follow to have a successful discovery on those Linux appliances

It seems that there are some policies on the linux server wherein the username should have a specified format. You need to check with the system administrator of the device if the username has been entered correctly as you are not able to SSH.

Can you login to this linux device using Putty? Check port 22 is open or not.

Hi,

All those target devices are security appliances and currently ping and port 22 is disabled on these target host due to security concerns and can't be enabled.

only SNMP port 161 and http/https is open and no traffic shown between source MID server to those targeted host. However, While running the discovery, no communication being made.All showing not reachable and some are saying Cannot connect, status is SSH_PROTOCOL_FAILURE. Received server DISCONNECT message: DISCONNECT: code: 15, reason: Illegal user name, description: Username doesn't contain '%%' or '@'

Is there a possibility to discover them with SNMP/HTTP/HTTPS. If yes, may I know the process for the same.

Can you run an SNMP behavior based discovery on that IP address and see what is the output.

You may to setup credential type as SNMP.
