Are SNMP System Oids and other hardware classifications added during upgrades? Example: I'm adding some F5 Oids that are not in London, will they be rolled up (somehow) and added to other discovery users oids when they upgrade to Madrid (and will I get their's)?
I will say that a competitor makes updates to oids monthly, if it's not classified this month it likely will be next as the information is shared.

Hi Todd --- I'm speculating a bit here, but I doubt that OID's added by SN (during any upgrade) will get 'rolled up' or merged with stuff you add. This goes against the basic philosophy of SN upgrades vs. customer-added objects. I would strongly bet that anything you add (OID's or anything else) will remain as independent objects after an upgrade. Might duplication occur? i.e. if you create something and later on SN adds the same things? yes...
As I said, I'm speculating but past behaviors are generally a good indicator of future behaviors.......
Hope this helps...

Dave's speculation is correct. ServiceNow will add additional OID classifications without any regards to your specific customizations. It is highly recommended that you review through the Discovery Release Notes for each upgrade and look through any custom enhancements you have made to classify device types not yet implemented from ServiceNow.
The F5 BIG-IP classifier is a good example as it didn't exist until around Geneva, so older ServiceNow customers had to go the extra mile in building those probes and sensors before it was available out-of-the-box. Once it was part of the release, customers would typically deactivate their customizations (CMDB tables, OIDs, classifiers, probes/patterns, etc) in favor of ServiceNow's new functionality.

Hmmm, I won't let SN off that easy. I would assume that during an upgrade some test could be done so duplicates don't occur. The use case is that if company A is using the newfangled firewall that sooner or later many other companies will. Just like the base oids included in Discovery, we likely don't use most... So this may be a customer-added object today but an opportunity to support all customers later.

Well, I doubt SN will change their defacto-paradigm for managing objects during upgrades. This paradigm has existed for at least 10 years. Customer-added-stuff has always been on the customer to maintain (or merge/react) throughout upgrades, regardless of what SN-enhancements might come along. Just my 2 cents. Best of luck
