Discovery advise and root cause remediation for stale CIs

Hello all, this is a request for help to all those experienced in Discovery process regarding how to possibly reduce the  number of stale devices or at least manage them in a more efficient way.

I am facing a situation where the average number of stale devices (lets say switches) is always around 50. The current process involves running a discovery on all affected IPs at once but only 2 or 3 devices become discovered. Then, for the undiscovered items, a manual discovery is run, (one by one which is very time consuming) to get more details about the reason why the CI couldn't be discovered.

The reasons vary from, Multiple records with same IP, IPs not reachable, no valid credentials, I've even seen multiple records with same IP but different serial number.

This is just an example for stale switches but there are also other items like firewalls (70) or linux servers (around 160 CIs), that follow the same remediation procedure.

Is there someway to enhance this process and make it more effective? or What could be done to get to the root cause of this in a more efficient way and reduce those numbers?

thanks

I have the same problem (but many more undiscoverable devices). One thing that does help is the "discovery home" page - click on "view errors" and it does break down the issues by categories... i.e. configuration, network, credentials... so you can potentially work them (or assign tickets for them) in groups.
