Discovery changing CI Class

I have multiple CIs that are virtual servers & were created correctly(as I would expect) in the Windows Server Class.  Then about 2 months later, Discovery changed the CI class to Computer.  So now I have duplicates: 1 Windows Server & 1 Computer.

Appreciate any help on troubleshooting why & how this happened, plus any tips on how to prevent it.  THANKS!

Hi Julie,

Did discovery populate them as Windows Servers initially? Or were they manually created?

Based on what you're saying I would guess that you need to tweak or create some new Identifiers so discovery can match and update the existing CI records rather than create new. You can do that via CI Class Manager > (pick CI class) > Identification Rule. There you can see the current rules that discovery will try to match again. Make sure your existing CI's have some of those attributes. If they don't you can create a new rule that will help match.

Hope this helps!

David-  Thanks for your reply.  Yes, discovery populated them initially as Windows Servers.  I'll give your suggestion a try!

And be sure to review the mechanism that controls the re-classification as well...
