Typically licensing is done by 'nodes'; a node is a record on the cmdb_ci_server table in ServiceNow that has the following values: - the discovery source is set to ' ServiceNow' - the first discovered and most recent discovery fields have different values. Since importing and managing records using VMware won't set the Discovery Source to ServiceNow, you won't consume any Node licenses.

Similarly, Network devices are not "nodes" so they do not consume a license. Same logic goes with Printers and other SNMP devioces.

HI KJ

Thanks for your response I have one more question

Does license is counted for VM ((virtual Machines) also or single license is counted for physical server no matter how many VMs are there in that Physical Server. For Example: Let us assume there is one Windows Server which has 5 VMs allocated to different teams for different project. There are 10 database in total on these 5 VMs and 12 applications are running. Now questions if that if I want all these VMs, Database and applications to be discovered in SNOW then do I need only one license since all are on single physical server or do I need separate license for each VMs OR do I need separate license for even Database or applications?

 Thanks

CI's on CMDB_Server table referred as Nodes.  Note# Virtual Machines not considered as Nodes.

Virtual Servers imported from VWare may not be considered a node.

BUT discovered Servers, physical and virtual, both are counted as nodes from licensing perspective.
