Discovery not running consistently

Hello,

When I kicked off discovery and show status is active. But looks like it's hung and not doing anything. I found out that when i restart the mid server in service-now. Then the job is running, serveral hours later the systom is back again and I need to keep on restarting the mid server for the discover to run.

Anyone have any ideas?

I have come across this a number of times. I too found restarting MID as the only workaround for this.


Here are a few things to avoid:


  • /16 subnets. - This really takes lots of time due to 65536 IPs involved. If you are doing this, then give it lots and lots of time.
  • Do NOT use same MID server for running more than 1 schedule at a time. This seriously kills MID imho.
  • If you are scanning specific device(s), use behaviors. Seriously saves a lot of time.
