Discovery Schedules not finishing

Is anyone else having problems with their discovery schedules not finishing?   I have a total of 3 schedules that I am currently developing for the main corporate network, but two of them never finish - they always have 2-5 that were started but not completed.

I have restarted the MID server web service within the GUI, and I have rebooted the MID server itself; or rather I requested the appropriate Midrange Team to do this for me.

Any thoughts or suggestions before I open a HI ticket?

Thank you,

Melinda

These two have never finished, and yes, I am getting errors too.   Thank you both for your assistance, and I will work through these steps next.

Happy to help! Access issues, such as credentials, access control lists, firewalls - etc; are by far the most common type of error that you'll encounter. Discovery (to me, at least) is often more political than technical!

If you're seeing errors in the Discovery log, its certainly best to approach them by type - and as you state, work with the owners of those CIs to resolve whatever issues you may be facing.

Keep me posted on the results of those smaller Discovery Schedules, and I'll do my best to help out!

In terms of location, all of these are located within a 100 miles of the MID Server.

That was really good advice - I found on one of my schedules that the issue is one server.   Now that I know what to look for, I think I can get this fixed!!

I will keep you posted on my progress - I love this community - has helped me resolve and learn so much!

Hi Melinda,

I have to agree with Dan.   Try decreasing the size of the ranges to see if that helps.   In the past I have seen large ranges sit for a LONG time, but they do eventually finish.   Do yours ever finish, or will they sit from now on?

You could also create a test range that just includes those machines that never "finish" - this could mean that the machines themselves have issues.   Long shot but it may help you in your troubleshooting process.

Another idea would be to tweak the memory settings of you VM/MidServer.   That can sometimes help speed things up.   Check this out - MID Server Configuration - ServiceNow Enterprise Wiki

Good Luck!
