Using Istanbul.
I have many VMs which appear to have been copied with the same serial number. These VMs have somehow been added to the CMDB with the same serial number. When I review discovery logs for these computers, I only see 3 hardware rules being reviewed before it detects a duplicate serial number. Then it stops. We have 2 additional rules which could identify these computers, but they are never used although they are active.
I'd like to be able to have additional rules used if a duplicate is detected so identification can still occur. Is this possible?
Thanks,
Ron

Ron,
Thats not possible.
Discovery will do following things :
1) If there is no match from the identifier, it will create the CI
2) If there is exact one match, then it will update that CI
3) If there is multiple matches based on the identifications, then its a problem in the cmdb as at that time you don't want to create another duplicate or discovery doesn't know which one to update. Hence discovery will be stopped at that time.

Hi Ron,
Can you post the log info and the rules which you created, and also on which table additional rules were in place?
