We are in the process of mapping our email service. One thing we are trying to work out the best way of displaying is we have many data centres and exchange servers around the world and was wondering how people have approached this before as we want to show the email services in locations to see impact etc to our overall email service

If you are talking in terms of CMDB relationships, You may need to create appropriate relationships with Data Centers, Exchange Servers, Locations CMDB record which can provide you the hierarchy and impact, if something goes down.

Yeah in essence it’s basically how we show as a service map as we won’t be able to do top down as the entry point shows everything so I was seeing how/if people had done something to show say Email location a and it’s underlying relationships and email location b and it’s locations. We have the relation ships in cmdb etc but I’m guessing would have to manual map or?

Yes. Because Email Service is an application service and not discoverable.
But most of the infrastructure services should have been auto mapped if it was discovered automatically.
